The Hôtel Gray d’Albion, a pioneer of sustainable development in Cannes
The Hôtel Gray d’Albion has just gained two new certifications: ISO 9001 and ISO 14001. The latter, which rewards the quality of the hotel’s environmental management system, is a first in the Cannes hotel industry.
Didn’t they do well! It took the Hôtel Gray d’Albion just 5 months to gain ISO 14001 rather than a full year as most companies take. This achievement is largely down to hotel staff who were fully involved in this environmental operation; they were personally committed to see their hotel certified in record time. The hotel used the ISO 9001 quality standard (set up since 2006) as a basis to design an environmental management system in accordance with current regulations, thereby minimising the hotel’s environmental impact.
The Hôtel Gray d’Albion is currently the only hotel in Cannes that cleans the seabed of its private beach. Methods have been initiated to reduce the building’s electricity, water and gas consumption by 5% this year. Selective waste sorting facilities have been set up in the 200 rooms, as well as LED lighting and water pressure reducers in the bathrooms. A study to change the air-conditioning system is underway. During the hotel’s renovation work, which finished in spring, practically all the old materials were recycled.
The Hôtel Gray d’Albion’s key strength is being a sustainable hotel capable of upholding customer service always giving guests the choice between ecological and traditional products and services. For their travel for example, they can opt for a hybrid vehicle. Later on, hotel management even wishes to offer an “eco-bonus”: every guest who decides to travel to Cannes by train will receive a discount!
Everything has been given a new look and modernised at the hotel which is one of the flagships of business hotels in Cannes. The wonderfully high-tech rooms each have an LCD screen, a printer and Wi-Fi internet connections. The business centre on the 1st floor has also been given a face-lift: it now offers 8 adaptable, sound-proofed and air-conditioned meeting rooms with video-projectors and a hosting capacity of 10 to 200 people. Meeting rooms may be privately hired for groups of 120 people.
